FAQ

What is the QualityTime app?

QualityTime is a fun, visual and easy-to-use Android app that allows you to monitor and get real time reports on how much time you spend on your smartphone and on your favorite apps.

You can set usage limits for your device or for specific apps and receive personalized alerts when exceeding the usage limit. For adventurous users, you can even create external alerts to the Internet of Things (IoT) that notify you of smartphone overuse.

You can also curb your phone usage with the “Take a Break” feature, to digitally unplug yourself from your phone.

Why do I need QualityTime?

How is QualityTime different than other time management apps?

Unlike other apps which provide very basic reporting on how many times or how long you have used your phone, QualityTime offers an much in-depth analysis of your phone usage. QualityTime also provides the ability to curb your habits by setting your own time restrictions like ‘alerts’ and ‘take a break’ actionable features to help you manage and control your usage when needed. You can also connect to the Internet of Things (IoT) to set alerts that tell you when you are overusing your phone!

Some apps require GPS to be turned on all the time in order to accurately track the phone usage, which QualityTime does not.

QualityTime provides you with an automatic diary of your smartphone usage activities. Whether you are serious about curbing your phone usage or simply curious about how you use your device, the app provides a unique personal activities log displayed as a ‘timeline’ from morning to night giving you a quick visual "at-a-glance" view of your usage activities instead of the typical numerical charts.

You can view summary stats, or a more in-depth detail of a specific app or hour-by-hour usage to give you varying insights into your mobile habits.

Do I need to have sign-up for a QualityTime account before I can use the app?

You are not required to sign-up before using the QualityTime app. You can use the app without a QualityTime account. You will be able to see the detailed usage up to last 14 days and the data is only stored locally without Cloud back-up.

If you create a QualityTime account, you will be able to see detailed device usage up to the last 6 months, and the usage information will be securely backed-up in the Cloud so you won’t lose it.

Is “QualityTime” app FREE?

Yes. QualityTime is a FREE app.

If you create a QualityTime account, you will be able to see detailed device usage up to the last 6 months, and the usage information will be securely backed-up in the Cloud so you won’t lose it.

In the near future, we plan to introduce an optional in-app purchase which will provide extended usage back-up beyond 6-months and advanced tools and features for users who need extra functionality to help curb their usages.

Do I need to create multiple QualityTime accounts if I have different devices I wish to track?

Yes. Each QualityTime account is bound to a specific mobile device. If you create a QualityTime account on a certain device then switch to a different device and sign-in using the same QualityTime login credential, it will ask you if you want to switch your QualityTime account thereby binding to the new device.

How does QualityTime work?

Once the app is installed, it works quietly in the background to monitor and track your mobile usage activities. You can customize whichever apps that you would like to exclude from tracking, or even pause tracking at anytime. Once you create a QualityTime account, your past usage activities will be securely backed-up in the cloud so you don’t lose it when you change phones.

Which Android versions are supported?

Android 4.0 and above and Android 5.x (Lollipop) devices.

Can QualityTime run without an Internet connection?

Yes, once you setup QualityTime on your device, it will run in the background without any Internet connection.

What about iPad and iPhone?

Due to iOS restrictions(app may not track other apps' activities), we are not able to implement similar monitoring features on iPad or iPhone at the moment. QualityTime is only available for Android devices.

Does the QualityTime app collect my personal information?

We take data privacy very seriously. Your personal account information is securely saved in our servers. We never share this personal information with anyone else.

We collect some anonymous elements about your app usage in order to improve future enhancements and usability of our product.

You can also use our app anonymously by selecting “register later” and usage will be stored locally.

What happens to my data if I change to a new phone or tablet?

Your data follows your account. If you switch to a new phone or tablet and login to the new device, you will be prompted to confirm that your account is about to bind to the new device. You will then be able to access all of our previously usage data on the new device.

What is IFTTT and how does QualityTime use IFTTT to connect to the Internet of Things (IoT) to alert you to smartphone overuse?

IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement: if this then that. With the new QualityTime Channel on IFTTT you can create external alerts (i.e. outside the app) to the Internet of Things (IoT) or your favorite online services when you exceed your device usage limit.

For example, If my daily device usage exceeds (xx min/hour) then (e.g.) blink Philips Hue light several times, send a SMS to someone, post to Facebook, or save a log in Google spreadsheet. If my daily screen unlocks exceeds (xx times) then (e.g.) automatic call to someone, local Android alert, or creating an event log on Google Calendar. You can customize the external alert actions to fit your needs.

Why does the app require phone call, send SMS and read contacts permission on my smartphone?

You can create different QualityTime profiles to customize how you wish to unplug from your smartphone during “take a break” or “scheduled breaks” to minimize distractions during those periods. QualityTime profiles provide options for you to block notifications and reject phone calls with auto reply text messages. You can also define exceptions to allow incoming calls from important contacts and permit access to specific apps during those restricted periods. Hence our app requires phone call, send SMS and read contacts permissions from your device in order for these features to work properly.

Where can I find the QualityTime App?
